I'm on Scottrade with a Roth IRA and a regularly taxed trading account. I too run only 10-20 trades per year, if that. I get their standard $7 trades, and I don't currently do options (though I think it's $1.25 per contract). No other fees as far as I can tell. They have all of the statements and ledgers and account history you need for tax season, electronic downloads on demand, or mailed paper copies if you prefer. I've never had to contact them, but they've called to check on me, and they have a physical branch office in some places. Experience has been good with the overall platform–getting money in and out, placing orders of various types (conditional, trailing stops, short sell, etc.). Mobile apps are decent enough, but not amazing. The charts and research (specifically news) aren't the best, but you can supplement with plenty of other free services. And they have a FRIP service to reinvest dividends automatically if you prefer. Anyway, that's my pitch for scottrade. I have not tried other trading platforms.
